I’ve always liked the rain.
Not the kind where you check the forecast and plan around it.
The kind where you step outside and just let it happen.
Back home, rain was never calm. It was random. Unpredictable. Some days nothing at all. Other days it would pour so hard the streets flooded within minutes. It wasn’t something you enjoyed. It was something you dealt with.
It came loud. Heavy. Sudden.
Here, it’s different.
Seattle rain feels patient. It doesn’t rush in. It just settles over the city. Grey skies for days. Light drizzle that doesn’t demand attention but slowly changes everything.
I love that.
I love walking without an umbrella and getting drenched. At some point you stop caring about staying dry, and that’s when it becomes peaceful. There’s no resistance left. Just you and the rain.
Sometimes I sit somewhere quiet and let it fall. No scrolling. No talking. Just the sound of water hitting pavement and the low hum of the city. Everything feels slower. Softer.
Music sounds better in the rain. Headphones on. Hoodie up. Streets glowing under streetlights. It feels cinematic, but not dramatic. Just calm.
People think gloomy weather is depressing. I don’t see it that way. The grey skies feel grounding. They remove the pressure to be loud or busy. The city feels more honest when it rains. Less performative.
Sunlight makes everything sharp.
Rain makes everything reflective.
Back home, rain felt chaotic. Here, it feels steady. Predictable. Almost comforting.
And maybe that’s why I’ve grown to love it so much.
It’s not just weather.
It’s a mood.

I enjoyed reading this. Rain definitely changes the rhythm of a city. It alters how people move through spaces and often creates a quieter, more reflective atmosphere. I’ve always found rainy weather surprisingly therapeutic as well.
